Dodgy Ebayers, RST, the only other Buell, Colin McRae and the Aussie.
Hello y’all and thanks for tuning in to another episode of YamYam.
So after weeks of huffing and puffing I put my Beloved Buell up on the bay. Starting price £3000 and Buy It Now of £5500. I had 950 views and 28 watchers. 4 questions and a guy who phoned up to look at it.
He said “I’m wanting to see it as it’s either a Buell or a KTM.” I said “Yeah sure, when?” He said “wednesday” and I said “See you then.”
So Wednesday came and I had a visit to the Hospital to get an xray on my lower back…it’s causing me real jip and has done for the past 7 years.
He was meant to have called on Monday night to confirm when he would be coming but didn’t. Then Tuesday passed and nothing again. So to be waiting around for this guy was a bit silly. It was obvious he wasn’t interested.
So I called him on Thursday. “Hello, it’s Gordon and I have the bike on ebay?”
“Hold on a minute the washing machine is loud.”
“Sorry, Gordon from where?”
“It’s Gordon and I have the bike on ebay. You were meant to come and look at it on Wednesday?”
Then I got a big long story about how he had went to KTM with his mate on Tuesday and seen the supermotard and he was like “Is this for me?” and blah..blah….BLAH.
“I’m really sorry I didn’t mean to disappoint you. Can I come and see it on Saturday? I wont muck you around anymore you know, I’ll come on Saturday morning and I’ll give you a difinitive yes or no. OK?”
“Sounds great. Here’s my postcode and I’ll see you Saturday at 10am!”
“Bye.”
So Friday night I washed my bike inside out. Gleaming it was. Then Saturday at 7am I got up and polished it to a mirror.
10am arrived. Then 10:30am. Then 11am. Then 12pm.
What hacked me off more than anything was that this bloke had my mobile number and my house number. He could have easily called to say “Im not interested.” But no, here’s dumb ass YamYam, polishing his bike at 7am. Setting it up so that the sun was shining perfectly on it; not too much, not too little. Perfect. Then sitting around for 2 f*cking hours waiting on this chump.
I felt abused. There’s only one thing worse than getting your pants pulled over your head, and that’s having the piss taken out of you.
So after a week of sulking I put it back on ebay for a £4900 BIN or nearest offers.
Still nothing but theres a day left dadgumit.
RST. Laz commented about them and I have a few more things to say.
After my arse falling out of my last pair of RST Synchro trousers, I got a fresh as a daisy pair. 2 weeks past and then the arse fell out of them in the exact same way as before.
So I trotted in to Scott Murray again and Ian burst in to laughter. “Whatever you want to do!!!”
So I had a look around the shoppie and immediately saw the RST Pro Series trousers. I took them in to the changing room and slipped them on. They went on with ultimate ease. The armour was in the right place. THere was absolutely no tension anywhere but they fitted me snugly everywhere! Unbelievable. I was gobsmacked. Night and day.
They were a complete wake up call and a dream to wear. I immediately felt comfortable.
So in one of my weaker moments I looked for the accompanying jacket. There it was. A looker to say the least but of a touring style instead of a street style like my current RST jacket.
So I ordered one in. And I got it the weekend after. Beautifully snug, quality all round I thought, had some arm adjustments to stop the arms flapping in the wind. Pockets everywhere and a storm flap. Sold.
I got it home and my better half said, “That popper is hanging off.” Then the popper came off leaving a wee hold about 3mm in diameter.
“As long as it doesn’t leak, it will be ok.” The popper was for a kind of neck guard thingy that stopped any wind blast reaching your neck. A great wee thing but not essential.
So this weekend me and em went in to Scott Murray (Her RST leather brieks had duffed up as well, the lining was tore and Ian had ordered her in another pair.)
He said hows the jacket, is it broke yet!? And I said yes…the look on his face was priceless. I explained that it was the storm flap and as long as it doesn’t leak I would just keep it. He said “No no, I’ll order you another one in?” and I said it’s ok, if it leaks Ill bring it back if not it’s fine.
So we had a wee nose around the rest of the shop and then Billy said hows it going. Any more problems? and I mentioned the jacket and he said, ok, i’ve ordered you one in. And that was that.
So I go in again this weekend coming to pick up another new jacket. I take my hat off to the boys at SM, they know how to treat customers and I have no problems going in there as much as I want.
There is an underlying fear though that RST are a brand that don’t make good clothes. I have had 3 pairs of trousers, 3 jackets and 2 pairs of gloves in the past 9 months. (I forgot to mention, when the other set of trousers ripped, I also noticed the stitching was coming away from my racing gloves. So I took them in and he swapped them over for a brand new pair as well even without the receipt. Glorious)
Here’s hoping the “Pro” range will last longer than 9 months or even 2 weeks!! We’ll see.
It’s definitely not me, I take care of all my gear extremely well apart from my boots. Which are Alpinestars Gore-tex. I have polished them once and they haven’t faltered once. Great boots.
I also saw the only other Buell ever the other day. I was riding along to Perth and in my mirrors I saw another bike coming. Then I saw gold flashes from the wheels and realised it was another Buell, the exact same as mine but not the Long version. It was great. We rode along together for miles and miles. Then we stopped at lights and he was an older guy, say 40s, and we chatted about how long we’ve had them and they are great. He also had the race can which was breathtakingly sweet. Then he rode off!
And finally to end this blog I shall talk about the Aussie.
MotoGP is boring. I hate to say it but so far this year it has been a one man race and lots of nothing happening. Stoner is a good rider, no doubt and the Ducati is some machine, granted and the bridgestones are doing their job…great.
But when was the last time there was some REAL racing!? Assen 2 months ago. The 125s and the 250s are more exciting.
Today however it was a different story. The bridgestones weren’t working at their best. Rossi, Dani boy and Stoner were duking it out for 1st and then Stoner dropped off way way back. Hayden was on pole, great to see him back up there again. Rossi won and it was a great race, one of the best I’ve see this year, apart from Assen.
Colin McRae is dead. What an unbelievable blow to the world. He was a true hero and an iconic figure in the world of motorsport. Rossi was good friends with him and today whilst standing on the grid he held up a sign that read “Colin, We will miss you” and he held his hand over his heart. No cheeky Rossi today, just a sad friend of a great man, taken from this world in the most horrible of circumstances.
Anyway,
It’s 22:57 and my better half is watchin About Shmidt…the most depressing film known to man, so I better go and save her.
Thanks for reading folks, and keep checking out the MTOC, which got a massive plug in this months BIKE magazine. Underneath a picture of a MT-03, it said “Top Tips, check out the MTOC for user tips”
Great stuff, big publicity and that means bigger user base for Laz and his forum.
Cheerio!

I googled RST problems and found you experiences. I’ve got RST Alpha jacket and trousers. I’ve had 2 pairs of trousers and 1 jacket in the last 6 months. I have not been using them much cos of snow and frost. The material seemed to let go at the seams. The main consern I have is what kind of protection I would get from the kit if it all goes Pete Tonge ant 70 mph. Anyways thanks for confirming that RST are substandard.
